I will never forget what was going on right before I met you. I was recovering from reconstructive breast surgery after a nasty fight with breast cancer. A good friend convinced me to go for a walk in downtown Princeton on a nice day.
The next thing I remember is that I was on the sidewalk under a fence. As you know, the pole struck my neck and head causing me to fall under the weight of the fence. I wanted to retell my story for you to share with your clients and friends.
I was crossing the street one day when my foot became caught in a pothole, causing me to fall down sustaining a badly fractured arm. Every lawyer I met with told me I had a limited case because municipalities have special protections, especially when it came to fixing potholes. I was also told that because I was legally blind it would be even more difficult to recover.
Immediately after our first meeting, you did something no other lawyer had done. You took me to the accident site and performed an inspection. You pointed out that the pothole was in a crosswalk, and as a sight disabled person I had a right to rely on a safe walkway. Then you looked at the pothole and found a private water company cap! The cause of my accident had nothing to do with a municipality after all.
