Carlstadt, New Jersey, saw two separate car accidents last week. Both events involved drivers of commercial vehicles. The drivers, who may have suffered serious injuries, may be able to seek financial assistance to pay for their medical care through the pursuit of workers’ compensation claims.

In the first case, a motor vehicle, semi truck, and ambulance were involved in a serious collision. The accident happened on Friday evening. According to police, a taxi or a minivan tried to turn left into a gas station, which caused the ambulance avoid a collision by swerving into oncoming cars. The ambulance then collided with the truck and the car. The ambulance was en route to Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center in Secaucus. Four or five individuals were injured in the collision. Although the extent of their injuries remains unclear, the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening.

In the second case, not far away, on the New Jersey Turnpike in Carlstadt, a separate collision also occurred involving a semi truck and multiple vehicles. As for the extent of injuries involved in that case, no details have been given.

When a semi truck or ambulance accident happens in New Jersey, the individuals operating the vehicles are likely to be employed by a larger company. Being that they are employees — and performing their job duties at the time of the collision — if these individuals are hurt in an accident, they may be able to file claims for workers’ compensation benefits.

Workers’ compensation claims for benefits are awarded to nearly any employee who is hurt during the course and scope of his or her employment. It does not matter whose fault the injury was. If the employee was injured on the job, then workers’ compensation insurance will step in to pay for his or her medical care, lost wages due to not being able to work and other benefits depending on the extent and nature of the injuries.
