It was 9:25 a.m. on a recent Wednesday when the accident happened. A construction worker was helping move some fuel out of underground tanks and into above-ground tanks close to a school. That’s when the worker was burned in the midst of an explosion that rocked the very foundations of the school.

The interim superintended for the town claimed that the worker was trying to cut an opening through the old tank in order to clean it, when suddenly it blew up. The cutting device the man was using created sparks, which found their way into the interior of the tank and lit on fire. This resulted in the explosion, which caused the worker to be thrown backward approximately 5 feet, and the explosion sent flames up about 30 feet high, according to witnesses.

The worker was injured with first- and second-degree burns across his torso and arms. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and as of last reports he was still at the hospital. As for more details about the man, none have been revealed by the hospital.

However, we do know that the worker suffered first- and second-degree burns to his arms and torso. The man was being treated at a hospital, but his name and further details on his condition were not disclosed. Fortunately, no other workers or passersby were injured in this tragedy.
