New Jersey workplaces where chemicals and other dangerous materials are used can easily result in injuries to the employees who work there. For this reason, it is vital that safety precautions are made and workers are trained in proper safety techniques. That said, not all accidents and not all injuries can be prevented.

In one case last week, an explosion happened at a business known as International Flavors & Fragrances in Union Beach. The explosion injured one employee, who required hospital care following the incident.

According to a spokesperson for International Flavors & Fragrances, the incident involved what she described as a “strong leak” rather than an explosion. She said that the accident was not anything major, but it did involve the injury of an employee, who was doing well and expected to be released after receiving hospital treatment. Meanwhile, Union Beach Police say that the accident was an explosion, but no other details have been released.

Emergency responders from a variety of organizations responded to the accident scene. Those included, Union Beach First Aid, Monmouth County Haz Mat, Keyport First Aid, Union Beach Fire Companies and the Monmouth County Fire Marshall’s Office. They cleared the area by 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

While it may not hurt a New Jersey business very much when an employee is seriously injured, it could hurt the worker and his or her family — not just physically but also financially.
