Alcohol plays a causative role in many traffic accidents, but police often reserve judgment on this issue while the accident is investigated. However, a recent pedestrian accident in Atlantic City produced a surprisingly rapid evaluation from the police about the potential role played by alcohol in the incident.

Police responded to reports of the incident at about 10:52 p.m. on Sunday on New Hampshire Avenue. According to police, the victim was struck by the suspect’s Honda accord while attempting to cross the busy street. The driver allegedly struck a parked car just prior to running over the victim. The victim was pinned under the defendant’s car and required the assistance of the Atlantic City Fire Department to be freed. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Division for treatment.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Police said that additional charges may be added after they finish their investigation. The defendant was released subject to appearing in court at a later date, as specified in her summons.

The defendant in this case is facing serious charges with more potentially on the way.
