Construction sites are fraught with dangers no matter how careful a New Jersey construction company happens to be. Indeed, the simple fact that construction workers are using powerful and heavy machinery — and the fact that many workers are doing jobs on ladders and scaffolding — presents serious injury threats that normal jobs simply don’t have.
Here, we will take a look at some of the most common injuries that construction workers suffer on the job:
— Amputations of toes, fingers and limbs: Using saws, workers can easily slip while cutting a board or other object. These slips can wreak havoc on one’s fingers and a lot of carpenters can be seen who are missing part or all of one or more fingers. Heavy objects and vehicles can also pin workers’ limbs, causing so much damage that it necessitates an amputation.
— Fractures and broken bones: Slips, trips and falls cause many fractures and broken bones at New Jersey construction sites. These injuries can also happen when machinery goes awry or if something falls on a worker and crushes him or her from above.
— Electrocutions, burns and explosions: In an unfinished construction site where parts of the site are still open to rain, electrical wiring can get exposed to water and represent an electrocution hazard. Also, open wiring in a construction project can be dangerous in this regard. Further, burns and explosions are not uncommon.
— Cuts or lacerations: Exposed nails and all manner of construction tools and machinery can come with the risk of serious cuts and lacerations when mishandled or when they slip.
— Eye injuries: Workers need to wear eye protection at all times when working on a job that threatens the safety of their eyes. Nevertheless, workers sometimes forget to wear such protection and suffer an injury.
There are a lot more categories of construction injuries, like toxic exposure, traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, loss of hearing, joint injuries, repetitive use injuries and more. If you or a loved one has suffered one of these or some other injury at a construction site, know that financial assistance may be available by filing a workers’ compensation claim.
